Manufactured in a century-old brick building in picturesque Lauenburg, Germany, Dan pipe tobacco has gained quite a worldwide reputation among smokers, with a wide variety of blends and cuts on offer. Andreas Mund became the successor in charge of production when master blender Jürgen Westphal retired, and is assisted by Heiko Behrens as well as Michael Apitz of Dan Pipe.

A delicious Aromatic pipe tobacco, Sweet Vanilla Honeydew is a mellow, ready-rubbed blend of selected Bright Virginia leaf delicately topped with smooth vanilla and sweet honey.

This is a fine aromatic with a nice blend of flavors. Mild and sweet, but not overpowring. The hint of vanilla accentuates the honey sweetness. I smoke ina Savinelli Clarrk's favorite to esnure a delightful cool smoke. For aromatics I use longer stem pipes and slow smoke and enjoy. Doing it this way I have no tounge bite. I really was hoping for more on this one. The vanilla is light as is the honey. It's very soft and mild, I was hoping for more of the vanilla and honey punch. It's not bad, and I'll gladly smoke the rest of what I ordered, but this will not be when I get again.

After 5 years, I opened up the tub it has been stored in, and the aroma is delightful. It was somewhat dry, so I placed some fresh thin sliced apple peel with a bit of apple flesh, and sealed it again for 2 weeks. Now it is perfectly moist but not at all a wet smoke. It’s good quality Virginia tobacco with a bit of vanilla, not much though. I didn’t get the burning everyone talked about, smoked cool, stayed lit, and wasn’t overly moist in the tin. If your looking for big vanilla flavor though, this isn’t what you’re looking for. Wouldn’t throw it out, will definitely smoke it all, but if I’m looking for a vanilla tobacco, I wouldn’t buy this again.

I guess maybe my expectations changed, and when I smoke it now I’m starting to really enjoy it more and more every time! I’ll definitely buy this again when I run out, it’s now my go to vanilla tobacco. Raised the score from 3 up to a 4....Read More

Sweet and Mild

I'm not an aromatic fan, but DTM makes some of the better aros in the European style of aromatics, which is less applied flavor with greater focus on leaf nuance. Fresh, the invert sugar adds considerably more sweetness to compliment the grassy and slightly woody VA, but this will eventually evaporate and result in less sweetness. The vanilla is barley present, but still offers a bit of vanilla bean here and there. I get more tobacco flavor from this vanilla topped blend than the horribly comprised concoctions of Sutliff.
