Lakeland Va(Per)
January 08, 2023
Product: Gawith Hoggarth & Co. Louisiana Flake Bulk
This was a pleasurable experience. The Lakeland essence was very slight. The cocoa was only a hint. The Virginias take the center stage and the Perique is a supporting role with great harmony. As much as I love GLP blends, I do prefer this to Stonehenge which is a pretty close comparison.
Like it very much!!!

Another GH Flake of Unparalleled Quality

This is top-shelf pipe tobacco. When it comes to flakes, GH is the cream of the crop. LPF is a very unique product, even by GH's standards, by way of the addition of Perique. This is not a typical VA-Per—GH's own take on the traditional VA-Per flake is different, but wonderful. LPF is a Virginia-forward, medium-bodied flake with no shortage of complexity in flavor and aroma. The extensive hot-pressing method which GH uses to make its flakes imparts very pleasant flavors to its Virginias, which are in full-force here. It makes for a smoke that's mellow on the tongue, yet very flavorful—indeed, you can have your cake and eat it too. Subtle flavors of pepper and figs from the Perique come through in every puff, just enough to make it really special and very enjoyable for fans of the 'truffle' of tobaccos. Golden brown, flue-cured Virginias are central to this flake, with a savory taste and zero tongue-bite. These Virginias are more on the savory end of the spectrum, and less grassy/hay-like. There is some noticeable Lakeland essence in this flake, and in my experience, it seems to refine and become more noticeable with time. Nicotine strength is about a 5 out of 10. Like most GH products, LPF's room note isn't likely to please non-smokers, but it's very pleasant to the piper. Overall, not a flake to be ignored by GH fans....Read More

The more I smoke this the more I want to smoke it.... Very nice blend of VA and Per. in a flake cut. Fantastic flavors from the Virginia and Perique combo, they play in harmony and deliver a great smoke.
Tobacco Fit for a King

Very tasty flake, nice room note, Nic-Hit one step less than medium. Slow burning, stays lit very well no relights, the flavor of this blend is Superior. All day smoke for me, one of my favorites, Gawith& Hoggarth flakes are where it's at for me. I use to hate aromatic blends until I tried English aromatics. This centuries old company does it right. Thee best of the English Aromatic Class absolutely with no reservations!!!!...Read More
Might need some time

Might need some time to settle down but still very good flake. Lots of cocoa in the bag but not in the flavour for me. I get some sweetness and lots of peppery perique. Not overpowering. Pretty long aftertaste. I don’t usually rub out my flakes but this one is so much better rubbed out. When dried it stays lit and burns near perfect....Read More
Great Stuff

I really like this stuff. It's fruity, chocolatey and smells wonderful . I chop the flake in to little cubes, break them up by rolling it around in my palms. No patience for pulling it apart. Actually I prefer it over Stonehenge, more flavorful to me.
