About This Pipe

An icon within the Danish pipe-making world, Hans "Former" Nielsen has been crafting stunning pieces for over six decades. His pipes are renowned for their intricate line work, sophisticated design cues, and impressive engineering, making them ideal for those who value both beauty and function in their smoking instruments.

This Lovat from Former demonstrates a certain proportional balance and cleanliness of line that could only come from the Danish master. The bowl demonstrates the subtlest and most elegant of tapers as the walls rise from the full-bodied heel to the neatly chamfered rim. Said bowl stands with proud, stately posture at the fore of a characteristically lengthy, cylindrical shank joined by a sleek saddle stem of vulcanite. The shank offers ample room to comfortably drape a digit, while the bowl houses a generous chamber with plenty of room for some choice tobacco. Stunning grain is displayed throughout the stummel, expertly read and drawn out by Former via a lovely contrast-rich, chestnut stain and a brilliant, glossy sheen. These days, it's not often we come across smooth Lovats that aren't part of the artisan's Oversized line — either new or as estates — making this particular offering an enticing one to admirers and collectors of his work.
