About This Pipe
Dirk Heinemann utilizes his background in carpentry and furniture design to craft pipes that are beautifully designed, both inside and out. The artisan's self-described style is simple, clear, and uncomplicated, yet this bent Dublin is highly complex, at least visually speaking. The curved aft wall, high waistline, and exceptionally narrow heel almost resemble that of the Ballerina shape, though the fore wall remains more linear in its taper to heel, and the rim is much more rigid. Out back, a checkmark-like transition introduces a short briar shank that quickly yields to a six-knuckle stretch of bamboo. This flourish adds a heavy dose of organicism to the composition, as does the jagged crown of plateau that rings the bowl, and its pale hue makes a striking complement to the stummel's dark, smoldering sandblast. Replete with organic texture and rather avant-garde in shaping, this bent Dublin is sure to satisfy the smoker in search of a unique take on the classic shape.
