American Estates: Grant Batson Smooth Bent Dublin (170) (2014) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 004-009-17371
Grant Batson has been working with wood in one form or another since he was 15. A former career in a furniture and cabinetry shop soon led to founding a guitar store with his brother. Now, the American carver has embraced pipe making full-time and has learned from among the best, as he has studied under Teddy Knudsen and Todd Johnson. In this compact, muscular bent Dublin, a forward-ebbing, robust bowl features kisses of natural plateau at the flaring rim, followed by an upward sweeping shank whose face is also crowned in craggy plateau. The stummel is dressed in a smooth, auburn contrast stain, revealing really gorgeous arrays of vertical grain on all flanks and through the shank. It's all topped by a cream-colored vulcanite stem, the base of which is adorned with an expansion disk that mirrors the shaping of the shank face.
