About This Pipe
Abe Herbaugh developed a love for woodworking in his father's shop while growing up in West Virginia. He built electric guitars as a young man, during which time he was reintroduced to the hobby of pipe smoking. Abe eventually became interested in pipe making and attended his first pipe show in 2010, then left his job building guitars to pursue pipe making full-time. World-renowned for his craftsmanship, Abe draws particular influence from Danish and Japanese artisans.
The bowl of this Apple is rather stout at 1.2 inches deep, barely higher than the crest of the round, muscular shank behind it. Ring grain can be observed through the dark stain of the stummel, providing the bowl with a rich texture that the fingertips will appreciate with each smoke. The brief shank ends at the start of the cumberland saddle stem, which has an inlaid accent of musk ox, which with its off-white coloring serves as a perfect contrast with the swirling burgundy-and-black. It's just outside of Nosewarmer territory at 4.70 inches but manages to pack plenty of visual intrigue into that length.
