About This Pipe
Chinese artisan Lan Zhenjun draws inspiration from the Danish masters, placing special emphasis on clean lines and flowing, balanced composition when carving. With its graceful, fluid, dynamic shaping, this beautiful bent Dublin showcases both Zhenjun's Danish influences and his personal carving prowess.
The bowl of this Dublin flares broadly toward the rim, and this wide flare combined with the bowl's short stature lend it a rather plump form, which falls perfectly in line with the organic shaping that informs the rest of the piece. Behind the bowl, a thick, cylindrical shank flows out of the curved transition, showcasing a wide flare of its own toward the stem. Said stem is shaped with short, broad, saddled shoulders, and arcs up into the air to offer a comfortable clench. The entire composition measures just under five and a half inches in total length, making this a conveniently compact piece. A crisp, smoky sandblast dresses the stummel, rendering the briar's rippling growth rings in high relief and offering plenty of visual and tactile intrigue.
