Partially Sandblasted Tomato with Horn (2025) Tobacco Pipe

Drawing on shaping cues both Danish and Chinese, Chinese artisan Lv Zelong crafts pipes with a meticulous attention to detail, imbuing each work with a superb functionality. He is known for his vibrant finish work and unique accents, as seen in this Tomato. A gorgeous, truly one-of-a-kind work of craftsmanship, the pipe demonstrates Zelong's mastery of the craft. Showing his Danish inspiration, a sweeping curve informs the underside of the pipe, following a flow of cross grain from the fore rim, around the uplifted heel, and through the horn ferrule into the subtly bent stem. Such a curve promises a cozy in-hand fit. The shank grows smoothly out of the transition with a subtle taper into its face before the horn ferrule flares back out into the junction. The transitional area is a really interesting part of the pipe. It's dressed in a light, black-stained sandblast that blends artfully into the vibrant smooth stain around it, thus showing off Zelong's signature skill in modern finish work. Staining the sandblast black was a good choice to help blend the colors of the stummel with the horn's darker, creamy hues. The bowl's left flank has a couple wisps of black-stained plateau that blend in gracefully with the gorgeous, cloud-like swirls of the surrounding birdseye. Out back, the stem is slim and sleekly shaped, promising maximum comfort. Overall, this is quite the beautiful pipe whose modest chamber capacity promises a blissful, brief reprieve from the monotony of everyday life.
