About This Pipe

An artisan based in Tianjin, China, Lan Zhenjun draws deep inspiration from the Danish school of design to craft fluid, precisely shaped pipes. This Blowfish is a fine example of his work, demonstrating his thorough command over the line work and his ability to combine geometric and curvaceous shaping cues. Two plump walls flank a diagonally oriented panel that runs across the bowl. The left wall is plumper than the right, giving the pipe a sense of dynamic movement that is typical for the shape. One subtle difference that Zhenjun has worked into the shape it a crisp lip at the fore of the bowl. From this lip, a supple undercurve sweeps around the stummel, cradling its underside for a founded, comfortable fit in hand. Out back, subtle facets frame the upcurled shank and the saddle stem's base, yet despite their firm and structured shape, they don't detract from the overall flow of the pipe's shape. Another interesting aspect of this pipe is the way the asymmetric orientation of the center panel creates a juxtaposition of crisp and round between the right and left flanks respectively. A subtle sandblast, stained black, dresses the stummel for a wealth of intriguing texture. This is a gorgeous pipe to add into the rotation, and its moderately sized chamber makes it a good fit for a variety of blends and a multitude of life's occasions..
