About This Pipe
Chinese artisan Lv Zelong blends Danish shaping cues with his own unique pipe-making style, resulting in a portfolio filled with expressive, organic, and well-engineered pieces. Having studied under Ping Zhan and Lan Zhenjun, it's no wonder Zelong's pipes exhibit such elevated craftsmanship and attention to detail. This bent Pot is one of the latest offerings from the accomplished artisan, and it showcases his keen eye for carving.
In this nuanced iteration of the classic Pot shape, the bowl's low-set waist further emphasizes the already plump form. As the walls make their ascent to the subtly concave rim, they curve inward in a cinched fashion, rather than merely following a steady, linear trajectory; this gives the bowl an elegant, subtly fluted effect. Behind the bowl, a nearly vertical shank emerges from the close-knit transition, its end flaring in a fetching way that complements the shaping of the bowl. A very Danish-style stem joins the shank, an expansion disc near its base mimicking the shank's flared shaping. The upward trajectory of the shank and the gracile bend of the stem offer a comfortable clench, while the bowl's plump, supple shaping allows it to nestle comfortably in the palm. A contrast sandblast dresses the stummel, highlighting a wealth of gorgeous grain while still preserving the integrity of the pipe's overall silhouette. Exemplary in both finish and shaping, this pipe will no doubt make a stunning addition to any smoker's collection.
