About This Pipe
Scott Thile's self-described style can be summed up as "Danish neoclassics as interpreted by the North American greats." With his years of experience — some as an autodidact and some under the mentorship of Bruce Weaver and Todd Johnson — it's safe to say that Thile has carved out a space of his own among the North American greats.
Incredibly aptly — and delightfully playfully — named, this Swoopy Apple from Scott Thile pairs a squat, forward-rushing bowl to a swooping shank-and-stem arrangement. It's fairly lightweight and charmingly compact, yet it exudes plenty of character thanks to its lively shaping and rustic sandblast. Said sandblast reveals dense ripples of ring grain throughout the bowl, offering a stimulating in-hand presence. With a squat, shallow bowl, this offering is well-suited for a quick yet satisfying smoke, and it's sure to look fetching hanging from the jaw with its stylized stem, distinctive stummel, and handsome finish.
