About This Pipe
Tennessee-based artisan Micah Redmond is known for carving compact, muscular pieces with a distinctly American flair. In addition to carving his own pipes, Redmond has been a part of the BriarWorks team since 2015, and before that, he mentored under the talented Premal Chheda as he delved deeper into the pipe-making craft. Replete with rugged, organic shaping and finish work, this bent Apple is a thoroughly eye-catching offering from Redmond.
The bowl of this Apple is quite stout, almost verging on Pot territory, yet remaining just outside of it thanks to the plump curves of its walls. Said walls are rather thick, and house a moderately sized chamber suitable for a wide variety of blends and smoking occasions. A round, ever-so-subtly upturned shank emerges from the sloping transition; its face is accented with a band of genuine horn. A domed saddle stem tops off the composition, adding a touch of brightness to the composition with its iridescent amber coloring. Meanwhile, the stummel wears a dark, ruby-tinged sandblast, which shows off smoky tendrils of flame grain interplayed against tight ripples of ring grain. A rugged patch of plateau crowns the bowl, showcasing yet another marvel from the briar that Redmond has maximized with great skill.
