About This Pipe
With his background in fine arts, it is no surprise that Bill Shalosky has such a wide diversity of influences. He is known to cite "every pipe ever made" as impacting his style, which is quite apparent in the diversity of design that his portfolio covers: his creations ranging from classic Anglo-French designs to those clearly inspired by the Danish Fancy Freehand movement. While much of Shalosky's portfolio comprises compact, tight-knit pieces that are clearly influenced by the American style of pipe making, this Brandy is a much more open and classic-leaning design. From a wide heel and even plumper waist, the bowls' walls form a steep taper into the flat rim. Within these walls is a moderately sized chamber whose capacity lies right in the sweet spot for a versatile smoker. Though everything so far has been fairly standard, this Brandy deviates from the Anglo-French norms in one significant way: The shank is longer than average and the stem is rather short, giving the pipe a compact Liverpool-like appearance. At the stem's base, a gorgeous inlay of cocobolo wood acts as the perfect complement to the stummel's cherry stain for an overall warm, smoky color palette.
