About This Pipe
Tsuge sent Fukuda-san and other pipe makers to Denmark in the 1970s to learn about Danish pipe making. The stylistic influence that visit left has been indelible in the stylistic oeuvre that defines Ikebana pipes to this day. This elegant, nicely proportioned bent egg is a great example of that: this is, for all the world, a Danish pipe, just one that happens to have been made in Japan. From the stem to the rim, the Danish influence is undeniable: the way the stem is saddled, the softly curving shank, the lovely egg shaped bowl-- it's all just very Danish. Being a 'B'-grade, it's also quite a value. Few smooth Ikebana pipes are available as anything less than 'BC' grades these days.
