About This Pipe
It was the Tsuge pipe company that sent Fukuda-san to Denmark to study pipe carving under the legendary Sixten Ivarsson. Following the ripple effect, Fukuda's new pipes featured a high degree of Danish influence, fused with just the right amount of Japanese sensibilities for that era, that made western pipe collectors stand up and take notice of the Japanese pipe. Thus, a still growing revolution began. Though it initially seems to be a fairly traditional "Danish" bent freehand dublin shape, the near right angle ramp between the top of the shank and the back of the bowl, combined with a conservative bowl compression on the horizontal axis adds a touch of distinct Nihon flavor. This compelling dublin sports some rather impressive grain, with excellent straight and flame grain around the bowl terminating into the plateau rim.
