About This Pipe

Ardor has its roots in Sociedade Rovera, a pipe-making firm founded in Varese, Italy, in 1911 by the four brothers Rovera. Angelo Rovera, son of Sociedade Rovera co-founder Francesco, founded Ardor in 1974 with his son Dorelio, and today the company's pipes are crafted from briar left to age for a decade. Ardor is nestled in close proximity to competitors Savinelli, Radice, Castello, and Caminetto, yet another example of the rich northern Italian practice of pipe making.

This Shield has so many features to admire for their sheer individuality, from the smooth, cherry red finish on the rim, to the brightly multicolored acrylic stem, to the length of bamboo that makes up most of the shank. On the bowl, Ardor's rugged Urano rusticated finish provides an easy grip and natural touch, while the lines of the Shield suggest precision on the artisan's part, falling as they do in close unison to form such a handsome shape. The bamboo is a very playful touch that nonetheless keeps the pipe in line — literally — while making it one of a kind.
