About This Pipe
One of the biggest names in Italian pipe making today, Castello's roots can be traced back to 1947, when Carlo Scotti founded the workshop and began producing handmade briar pipes. In a time of quantity over quality in Italy's pipe making history, Scotti flipped the script by prioritizing craftsmanship, high-quality materials, and cutting-edge engineering. Today, the brand remains committed to these principles, as is evidenced by this striking bent Apple.
This piece showcases the bold, inventive shaping for which Castello is known, yet it's rendered in fairly compact dimensions compared to many of the marque's other offerings. The bowl is quite rotund, offering a pleasantly palm-filling presence, and it stands poised at the fore of a robust, upturned shank-and-stem combination. The curvature of the arrangement offers a comfortable smoking posture, and the stummel's craggy rustication — Castello's Sea Rock finish — affords plenty of stimulating texture for the hand to appreciate.
