About This Pipe
Ardor has its roots in Sociedade Rovera, a pipe-making firm founded in Varese, Italy, in 1911 by the four brothers Rovera. Angelo Rovera, son of Sociedade Rovera co-founder Francesco, founded Ardor in 1974 with his son Dorelio, and today the company's pipes are crafted from briar left to age for a decade. Ardor is nestled in close proximity to competitors Savinelli, Radice, Castello, and Caminetto, yet another example of the rich northern Italian practice of pipe making.
The bowl of this bent Apple is slender and forward-canted enough that its appearance is near that of a bent Egg, and the heel extends slightly from the underside to flatten out and allow this piece to claim Sitter status. Alternating birdseye and cross grain dresses the stummel, all of it smoothly finished with a high gloss and a warm, light mahogany stain. The shank is muscular and upturned into a dark blue band of acrylic which is directly attached to the tapered, swirling brown-and-cream acrylic of the rest of the stem. It's a substantial piece in terms of scale and rich in color and touch, sure to be a great addition to any collection of Ardors.
