One of the biggest names in Italian pipe making today, Castello's roots can be traced back to 1947, when Carlo Scotti founded the workshop and began producing handmade briar pipes. At the time, handmade briars were uncommon in Italy, but that would soon change as Castello discovered customers' desire for high-quality, handcrafted pipes. In a time of quantity over quality in Italy's pipe making history, Castello flipped the script by prioritizing craftsmanship, high-quality materials, and cutting-edge engineering. The bowl of this Billiard boasts dense, insulating walls, and it stands proudly at the fore of the composition, drawing in the eye. Behind the bowl, a thick, ovoid shank emerges from the angular transition, its robust shaping offering plenty of space to comfortably drape a digit. A tapered acrylic stem completes the piece: Its dimensions start out quite robust at the junction, but swiftly narrow toward the button with dramatic effect. The stummel wears a smooth, rich finish that beautifully showcases the briar's impeccable grain, which has earned this pipe Castello's venerable "KKKK" designation.
