About This Pipe
Ukrainian artisan Konstantin Shekita began making pipes at the age of 23 after graduating from the Kiev Energy Technical School and serving as a border troop. He started his career in stem polishing at the Gold Gate factory, quickly advancing to shaping and finishing. In 1997, Shekita became an independent pipe maker. Notably, Shekita also worked as a stuntman in Russian films, likely making him the only person to combine those two professions. Producing around 200 pipes each year, his work is recognized for its precision, rich finishes, and diverse style.
This Acorn by Shekita is a highly organic interpretation of the shape, defined by clean lines and a graceful, arching sense of motion throughout. Unlike the form's typical defined heel, this Acorn features a rounded heel and a bowl with a slightly elevated waistline towards the rim, which is crowned with a section of plateau. Subtle cheeking at the transition emphasizes the bowl's muscular contours and forward-canted stance. The underside of the stummel is shaped with a sweeping undercurve that continues through the shank, which flares gently toward a plateau-capped face. The pipe feels solid and robust in hand, while its smooth, rich stain highlights a striking mixture of flame and cross grain across the briar. Completing the piece is a hand-cut vulcanite stem, whose warm, brindled tones of black and tan add further depth to the overall palette.
