About This Pipe
Lasse Skovgaard has dedicated much of his life to the pipe industry, much like his father, Benni Jørgensen. He began his journey at the age of 16, crafting pipes in the W.Ø. Larsen workshop. By the time he turned 19, he was already making the workshop's renowned Straight Grain pipes. Lasse launched his independent career at the 2004 Chicago International Pipe Show, and today, he stands out as one of Denmark's premier pipe makers, skillfully rendering pipes with meticulous line work and outstanding finishes.
The Blowfish shape is a highly artisanal shape, one that takes various forms in the hands of different makers. In Skovgaard's hands, it takes on a slender, elongated format. The distinctive Blowfish bowl sits along the fore, with one flank displaying soft, rounded contours, while the other features a crisp panel. An intriguing aspect of this design is that the shank face flares out to meet the stem, resembling the top of a mushroom. Although this piece has a sculptural quality, its lines remain flowing and organic, highlighting Skovgaard's skill in balancing various design elements. The design is completed with a stylized saddle stem made of black vulcanite, which echoes the stacked appearance of the shank beneath.
The stummel is finished with an earthy sandblast and a bright auburn stain, highlighting stacked growth rings along both sides of the bowl.
