About This Pipe
Lasse Skovgaard, one of Denmark's foremost artisans, creates pipes that emphasize graceful curves, striking finishes, and exceptional craftsmanship, resulting in designs that are truly distinctive. A shape Skovgaard has revisited frequently, the Acorn is defined by its flared, Dublin-inspired bowl, shaped to echo the contours of its namesake nut. In his hands, the form takes on a willowy elegance and a dynamic, poised outline, as exemplified by this rendition.
Up front, a broad, full-bodied bowl rests atop a slightly elevated heel, projecting a subtle forward-leaning stance that is artfully balanced by the curvaceous shank-and-stem arrangement. This arrangement joins the bowl at a low-set transition, whose cheeked flanks clearly demarcate the pipe's fore and aft. The transition further accentuates the fullness of the bowl's aft wall while offering ample space to drape a finger comfortably.
Skovgaard has finished this design in a rich, smooth polish that highlights handsome grain across the briar's surface, with tendrils of flame streaking the bowl's flanks and a sea of birdseye covering the rim. An Ivorite accent completes the composition, its clean white hue perfectly complementing the pipe's warm, natural palette.
