About This Pipe

One of the biggest names in Italian pipe making today, Castello's roots can be traced back to 1947, when Carlo Scotti founded the workshop and began producing handmade briar pipes. At the time, handmade briars were uncommon in Italy, but that would soon change as Castello discovered customers' desire for high-quality, handcrafted pipes. In a time of quantity over quality in Italy's pipe making history, Castello flipped the script by prioritizing craftsmanship, high-quality materials, and cutting-edge engineering.

This is the first Collection Poker we've seen from Castello in quite some time, and it's a rather fetching one at that. The tall, tubular bowl takes on a forward-leaning posture, vaulting the shank-and-stem arrangement upward, allowing it to meet the palate with minimal effort. Tight tendrils of flame grain trail along the walls of the bowl, while dense curlicues of birdseye dance across the rim and the length of the shank. Castello's Collection finish, a contrast-rich stain of deep walnut, accentuates these lovely grain patterns, which have earned the Italian marque's esteemed "KKKK" designation. Carved with rhythmic grooves and stained a more vibrant auburn hue, the shank adds a pop of contrast to the piece, as does the rugged, rusticated heel of the bowl.
