About This Pipe
Founded in 1947 by Carlo Scotti, Castello was one of the first workshops in Italy to offer handmade briar pipes. In a time of quantity over quality in Italy's pipe making history, Scotti flipped the script by prioritizing craftsmanship, high-quality materials, and cutting-edge engineering. Today, the brand remains committed to these principles, as is evidenced by this expertly-crafted Old Antiquari Apple.
With its corpulent bowl and muscular shank, this Apple is a hearty take on the classic shape. The bowl is exceedingly plump, yet this piece still possesses the generally compact build of its more classically-shaped counterparts when compared to, say, a Billiard. The full-figured shape of said bowl also lends it a reassuring presence in the hand. Behind the bowl, jutting out from the low-slung transition, is a short, shapely shank that's met with a stocky, tapered, acrylic stem. This offering has been treated to Castello's Old Antiquari sandblast, which emphasizes the intricate grain patterns found throughout the stummel.
