One of the biggest names in Italian pipe making today, Castello's roots can be traced back to 1947, when Carlo Scotti founded the workshop and began producing handmade briar pipes. At the time, handmade briars were uncommon in Italy, but that would soon change as Castello discovered customers' desire for high-quality, handcrafted pipes. The plump, near-spherical bowl of this Apple stands solidly at the fore of a low-set, sleekly tapering shank-and-stem arrangement. The stummel's softly paneled underside, along with the arrow-straight posture of the shank, allows the pipe to remain upright without the aid of a stand, and the bowl's capacious chamber offers ample room for a favorite blend. Dressed in Castello's smooth, walnut-hued Collection finish, the stummel showcases trailing tendrils of flame grain alongside swirling pools of birdseye.
