About This Pipe

Carlo Scotti brought the Castello brand to life in the late 1940s, crafting his pipes in the same shadow of the Alps as the likes of Savinelli and the Rovera family. Scotti's workshop would eventually yield the independent workshops of Caminetto and Radice, both founded by former Castello artisans, but the Castello tradition continues today with the neoclassic designs that make northern Italy such an influential player in the industry of pipe making.

Castello's Kino collection — so dubbed for the nickname of Scotti successor Franco Coppo, who passed away in 2025 — numbers only 100 pieces per year, of which this Billiard is number 61. A deep sandblast and dark stain manage to highlight the growth rings underneath while lighter flecks of briar manage to poke their way into the light along the ridges, giving the stummel a nice contrast. The walls of the bowl are lightly tapered on their way up to the rim and transition smoothly to the brief shank, which displays more ring grain before ending at a fine silver accent ring. A tapered stem of black acrylic finishes off the piece, which is an all-around beautiful smoking instrument and a fitting tribute to Kino.
