About This Pipe
Italian artisan Claudio Cavicchi boasts over 50 years of pipe-making experience and possesses an uncanny talent for bringing out the very best from a block of briar. His portfolio is full of evocative interpretations of classic shapes, and he is known by many artisans to have some of the best grain in the world, with even his non-graded pipes rivaling the top-tier pieces of other workshops.
This Volcano is a truly striking offering from the Italian marque, with a towering bowl and a vivid, high-contrast finish. The bowl and front half of the shank wear a dark, smoky sandblast, which draws out dense, rippling growth rings for a stimulating texture and a wealth of visual rhythm. In contrast, the end of the shank wears a smooth, vibrant auburn finish that accentuates flickers of flame grain. The shank is joined by a gently bent stem of jet-black acrylic, and this dark hue, in combination with the smoky sandblast, offsets the pop of vibrant, smooth briar at the shank's end, culminating in a finish that captures both the fiery magma and craggy, cooled, igneous rock from a literal volcano.
