About This Pipe
Italian artisan Claudio Cavicchi boasts over 50 years of pipe-making experience and possesses an uncanny talent for bringing out the very best from a block of briar. His portfolio is full of evocative interpretations of classic shapes, and he is known by many artisans to have some of the best grain in the world, with even his non-graded pipes rivaling the top-tier pieces of other workshops. Having received a stellar five-C grade, this Acorn is a thoroughly exemplary piece from the seasoned artisan.
Not only is this piece exemplary of Cavicchi's skill at reading a block of briar, it's also an exemplary piece of Italian pipe making with its bold, bowl-centric proportions. The Acorn bowl takes center stage, its walls flaring steadily as they make their ascent to the inflated rim, which shows off a stunning display of birdseye. A low-set transition introduces a thick, upturned shank that echoes the bowl's rim-ward flare, only here it flares more horizontally, toward the shoulders of the stylized saddle stem. A band of horn punctuates the junction between shank and stem, and a smooth, honey-blonde finish dresses the stummel, highlighting the flawless grain that earned this piece its esteemed CCCCC grade.
