About This Pipe

This is a slightly different take on Dunhill's "01" Apple: The bowl is in Group 3 size, but the shank and stem exude the slender sleekness of a Group 1 rendition. Such proportions create a visual disparity between the larger, more voluptuous bowl and the trim shank-and-stem combination, contrasting against The White Spot's conventionally balanced relative proportions. Accentuating this further is the slightly drooping heel, poising the bowl on the end. It's quite a compact rendition, too, offering a lightweight and pocket-friendly package that's ready for on-the-go smoking sessions.

The Shell Briar's addition to the Dunhill catalog was a pivotal moment in pipe-smoking history. Before 1917, pipes with sandblasted finishes had never been made, and Alfred Dunhill's innovative mind created arguably the most popular finish for pipes today when he unveiled the Shell Briar. With its dark, reserved color palette and delightful texture, it's no surprise that it's still wildly popular over a century later.
