Smooth Apple with Silver Tobacco Pipe

Hans "Former" Nielsen has a deep fondness for the Apple shape — his rusticated version has become one of his signature designs and it's also one that the legendary Danish carver can be seen regularly smoking in his workshop. This offering however is a smooth rendition of the plump form, and though it measures just barely over four and a half inches in overall length, this compact piece features plenty of robustness. The hearty, abbreviated shank transitions effortlessly into the chubby bowl, while also giving the bowl its well-defined cheeking in the process. The roundness of the bowl makes it a delight to hold in hand, though its light weight allows it to be clenched easily, making this quite the versatile little piece. It's been dressed in one of Nielsen's gorgeous contrast stains, highlighting a wealth of lively flame grain around the pleasantly plump bowl. The shank end has been tastefully accented by a bright mount of sterling silver, beautifully complementing such a classically inclined pipe. It's a gorgeous piece from the Danish master and a stunning example of the Danish school's elegant style.
