About This Pipe

After embarking on what he famously called a "pipe pilgrimage" across Europe, Brad Pohlmann returned to the United States in the 1970s and joined the esteemed Briar Workshop in Vermont, where he began honing his craft. Although he later set pipe making aside to pursue a career in computer science, the allure of the artisan trade ultimately drew him back. Bringing with him an engineer's precision and analytical eye, Pohlmann developed a style distinguished by meticulous craftsmanship, ergonomic excellence, and understated elegance. Those hallmarks are readily apparent in this finely executed bent Dublin.

A sharply angular composition, this bent Dublin from Pohlmann boasts a check mark-like silhouette, calling to mind old Pipe-Dan shapes. The dynamic outline sees a tall, forward-canted bowl set at the fore of a upward-sweeping shank-and-stem arrangement — the opposing trajectories of fore and aft creating a pocket of negative space above the transition. Though a moderately sized design, the bowl houses an impressive chamber, nearly two inches deep, its considerable depth ensuring plenty of long, leisurely smokes. An accent of black palm around the base of the stem lends a touch of visual depth to the design, while a vibrant smooth finish dresses the ensemble and highlights gorgeous flame grain across the bowl's flanks.
