Smooth Bent Dublin Tobacco Pipe

With over 60 years of experience under his belt, Danish artisan Hans "Former" Nielsen has dedicated most of his life to mastering the pipe-making craft and cultivating a style that is distinctly his own. He entered the world of pipe making at just 15, starting out in Poul Rasmussen's workshop and quickly honing his eye for detail and craftsmanship. Later, he worked as a supervisor for the W.Ø. Larsen workshop before eventually establishing his own. Former's pipes are prized for their clean lines, balanced composition, and impressive engineering — all of which apply to this beautiful bent Dublin.

This bent Dublin combines crisp line work with flowing, gestural shaping for a truly distinctive take on the classic silhouette. The bowl ebbs forward dramatically, led by the swooping momentum of its fore wall. The rim takes on a balanced, concave curvature, while the heel comes to a crisp, narrow point. Just above the precisely pointed heel, a low-set transition introduces a long, gracefully upturned shank out back. Said shank terminates in an elegantly flared mount of jet-black vulcanite, which is joined by a high-kicking, stylized stem of the same material.

Ever the expert at reading a block of briar, Former has maximized the grain beautifully here, adding further emphasis to it with a smooth, contrast-rich finish in a warm chestnut hue. Tight flickers of flame grain traverse the walls of the bowl, while dense pools of birdseye swirl along the rim, shank, and underside of the piece. In addition to showing off the briar's stunning grain, the smooth finish preserves every nuance of the stummel's distinctive silhouette.
