Sandblasted Strawberry Tobacco Pipe

Jason Mouton spent his childhood hunting and fishing in the bayous and marshes of his hometown of Gueydan, Louisiana. Under the guidance of his father, a skilled duck hunter, Jason learned to craft duck calls using a lathe. This small hobby undoubtedly influenced his pipe making today. Jay bought his first pipe in early 2016, and at the time, he knew very little about pipes. He simply loved the way they looked and decided to give it a try. This initial venture has led to what we know Mouton as today — a skilled pipe maker with a sharp eye for detail and a diverse portfolio that includes highly artisanal pieces as well as classic, familiar shapes. His passion for the craft is exemplified in his own words: "I love pipes! They have completely changed my life. I feel blessed to be part of such a wonderful industry and community."

Displaying J. Mouton's keen eye for shaping and grain alike, this Strawberry immediately draws attention with its organic profile and beautifully chosen block of briar. Leaving the stummel in a natural stain was no small decision, as it allows the wood's remarkable grain to take center stage. The shape stays true to its namesake, with a softly tapered bowl rising from a lifted heel to a pronounced, high-set waist that fills the hand with a reassuring sense of substance. A gently upturned round shank lends the composition an easy sense of flow before giving way to a hand-cut, half-saddle stem of black vulcanite. Completing the piece is a crisp sandblast that coaxes out rippling ring grain across the bowl, while a rugged crown of plateau at the rim lends a touch of natural texture.
