Smooth Lumberman with Mammoth (Saint) (2026) Tobacco Pipe

Not just renowned for his pipe making but also for his music, Jody Davis takes influence from the American and Danish schools of pipe making when crafting his artisan pipes. He took the importance of using the best materials possible from the Danish school and Jess Chonowitsch in particular, and later traveled to Vermont to learn from famed American artisan J.T. Cooke.

From Jody, we have this Lumberman — a variance on the long-shanked Billiard with an ovoid shank and saddle stem. Luckily for us, Jody has finished it smoothly and stained it a brilliant light brown so we can gawk at the incredible straight grain that runs along either side of the shank and all the way around the lightly tapered Billiard bowl. Equally attractive birdseye covers the top and bottom of the shank, as well as the heel and rim of the bowl.

Jody saved the best for last, though — the short cumberland saddle stem is inlaid with a cream band of mammoth in a way that contrasts with the dark red hue of the cumberland without overpowering it. It's an excellent way of giving the stem a touch of flair while still allowing the briar to take center stage. Jody's work on this one is to be prized as a work of art, but no doubt it will make for a great smoking instrument, as well.
