About This Pipe
Jody Davis is a man of many talents. In addition to his contributions to the pipe-making world, he is also an award-winning musician with three Grammy nominations. As an artisan, his distinct style — steeped heavily in Danish aesthetics — and exceptional craftsmanship have propelled him to an exalted status, with countless admirers and collectors of his work across the globe. We rarely see smooth bent Apples from Davis, and certainly not Tagua Nut Apples like this. Fashioned in the image of its namesake nut, the bowl is particularly squat and stout, with plump, organic curves that fill the palm nicely. A patch of plateau on the bowl's left flank adds another organic flourish to the piece, as well as a flash of stimulating texture for the hand to appreciate. The distinctive bowl is paired to a lengthy shank of bamboo with five grooved knuckles and plenty of rhizomes that offer additional texture for the hand to appreciate. The shank is joined by a short, downturned saddle stem whose shoulders cinch inward at the base and flare out toward the bit, mimicking the bamboo's natural shape.
Save for the crop of plateau on the bowl's left flank, the stummel wears a smooth, glossy finish and a rich chestnut stain, both of which accentuate the briar's lovely grain: Tight curlicues of birdseye flank the bowl, while contour-defining cross grain traverses the fore of the bowl and decorates the underside of the stummel. Replete with handsome grain and organic sensibilities throughout, this Tagua Nut Apple is sure to make a refined addition to any pipe collection.
