About This Pipe

Not just renowned for his pipe making but also for his music, Jody Davis takes influence from the American and Danish schools (of pipe making, that is) when crafting his artisan pipes. He took the importance of using the best materials possible from the Danish school and Jess Chonowitsch in particular, and later traveled to Vermont to learn from famed American artisan J.T. Cooke.

Jody dubbed this piece a "squashed" Tomato, and it's clear why: The bowl is only about nine-tenths of an inch deep and much squatter than the typical Tomato, but the walls are still rounded and the entirety of the bowl circular from above. There's much more to it than the shape of the bowl, however, which Jody addressed with a two-knuckle length of bamboo for a shank and rich rings of sandblast on the walls of the bowl, which pair nicely with the pale brown stain. The very brief vulcanite saddle stem briefly flares outward from the bamboo before tapering to a pair of shoulders and bending lightly downward to the bit. Though the bowl is very squat, Jody rendered an overall substantial pipe geared to smoke just as well as it looks.
