About This Pipe
Kai Nielsen, the son of Viggo Nielsen, who founded the Bari pipe factory, entered the world of pipe making in his teen years when he began working part-time at his father's factory. At the age of 21, he became a full-time employee — but that was just the beginning. Today, after years spent mastering his craft, he's a respected artisan with an impressive portfolio full of refined, classically Danish pieces.
Showcasing exquisite grain and masterful shaping, this piece has earned Nielsen's Jewel of Denmark grade at the "A" level, making it quite an esteemed offering from the artisan. It's handily compact, measuring a little over five inches long, yet it still manages to showcase plenty of excellent grain, finish work, and overall craftsmanship within its modest proportions. The bowl strikes the perfect balance between petite and plump, and it perches pertly at the fore of a gently upturned shank joined by Nielsen's signature half-saddle stem, which here makes a gentle downturn to promote a comfortable clench. Dressed in a rich, smooth, burgundy finish, this offering exudes timeless elegance as it shows off the artisan's masterful shaping and grain-reading abilities.
