About This Pipe
Kai Nielsen, the son of Viggo Nielsen, who founded the Bari pipe factory, entered the world of pipe making in his teen years when he began working part-time at his father's factory. At the age of 21, he became a full-time employee — but that was just the beginning. Today, after years spent mastering his craft, he's a respected artisan with an impressive portfolio full of refined, classically Danish pieces. Showcasing flawless grain and shaping, this Rhodesian has earned Nielsen's Jewel of Denmark grade at the "X" level, landing it among the most prestigious offerings to ever come from the artisan's workshop. When looking at its exemplary grain, finish, and shaping, it's easy to understand how this pipe earned such a prestigious grade.
This Rhodesian pairs a trim, moderately-sized bowl to a subtly upswept shank-and-stem arrangement. The bowl is exceptionally trim and tidy, with a traditionally high waist demarcated by two crisp, close-set beadlines. Underscored by a sweeping, graceful curve, the shank displays just a touch of rigidity on the paneled underside, while the top horizon remains characteristically round, making for a distinctive yet elegant take on the Rhodesian shape. Stunning flame grain climbs the walls of the bowl, stopping at the beadline-adorned waist, where tight curlicues of birdseye take over. A rich, smooth, burgundy finish dresses the stummel, highlighting these gorgeous grain patterns and imbuing the piece with an overall sense of timeless elegance.
