La Bruyere pipes are carved by Thomas Manzoni, a seasoned artisan who spent nearly two decades honing his craft at the Chapuis-Comoy factory in Saint-Claude, France — the genesis of modern pipe making. The weight of Saint-Claude's history is not lost on Manzoni, as he draws endless inspiration from both the pipe-making institutions and artisans around him. Having trained under skilled craftsmen Pierre Morel and Bruno Nuttens, Manzoni has cultivated a refined style that is sure to delight those drawn to updated takes on Anglo-French designs.
This handsome Billiard demonstrates Manzoni's penchant for carving classic shapes, as the Billiard remains the most timeless silhouette of all. This rendition is straightforward, but attractive nonetheless, with balanced proportions between the ever-so-slightly tapered bowl and the arrow-straight shank and stem. A deep chestnut stain and well-defined sandblast reveal the briar's grain in vivid detail, delighting both the eyes and the fingertips.
