About This Pipe
Rooted in the centuries-old pipe-making tradition of Saint-Claude, La Bruyere reflects the craftsmanship and understated style of artisan Thomas Manzoni. For the past 15 years, Manzoni has worked at Chapuis-Comoy, specializing in pipe assembly for everything from classic shapes to spigots and army mounts, while also developing his own skills as a pipe maker. Trained by Pierre Morel and Bruno Nuttens, his work embraces a contemporary-classic aesthetic, pairing pure, traditional shapes with carefully selected briar, morta, olive wood, and other fine materials, all with an emphasis on creating pipes that smoke as beautifully as they look.
Classically inclined, this bent Billiard from La Bruyere is a handsome interpretation of the traditional shape. Rendered in a contemporary style, the piece features a cylindrical bowl at the fore of an upturned shank-and-stem combination. The finish is particularly eye-catching and refined, showcasing sandblasted growth rings that emanate from the rim and cascade down the flanks, all dressed in a rich ruby-hued contrast stain.
