About This Pipe
Thomas Manzoni supervised pipe assembly at Chapuis-Comoy for 15 years and remains with the storied French marque, though he has worked his way up to crafting his own complete pipes under the La Bruyere brand. By his own estimation, his greatest strength in pipe making is having worked in Saint-Claude, a veritable hotbed of pipe making for centuries, and he names Dunhill, Tom Eltang, and Pierre Morel as his greatest inspirations. Manzoni trained under Morel and Bruno Nuttens and uses a wide variety of materials in addition to briar — morta, olive wood, horn, and ebonite among them.
This Dublin from Thomas' workshop is lightly conical and relatively straight rather than canted, giving the entire piece a unique profile for its titular shape. Thomas sandblasted it to bring out the excellent growth rings across both bowl and shank but managed to keep the tall, sweeping flame grain easily visible. The stummel is stained a lovely mahogany hue and backed with a lengthy tapered stem of black acrylic, eschewing an accent. The piece weighs in barely above a single ounce over its 5.21-inch length, making it quite light and easily supported with the jaw for a straight pipe.
