About This Pipe
Rooted in the centuries-old pipe-making tradition of Saint-Claude, La Bruyere reflects the craftsmanship and understated style of artisan Thomas Manzoni. For the past 15 years, Manzoni has worked at Chapuis-Comoy, specializing in pipe assembly for everything from classic shapes to spigots and army mounts, while also developing his own skills as a pipe maker. Trained by Pierre Morel and Bruno Nuttens, his work embraces a contemporary-classic aesthetic, pairing pure, traditional shapes with carefully selected briar, morta, olive wood, and other fine materials, all with an emphasis on creating pipes that smoke as beautifully as they look.
Faithful to traditional Anglo-French standards, this bent Billiard stands out with its colorful palette. The bowl and shank are of similar length, lending the pipe a balanced profile, while soft cheeking along the transition between the two adds a subtle sculptural quality to the shaping. The stummel is dressed in a bright crimson stain and smooth finish, highlighting clusters of birdseye throughout the briar, while a darker, carved section on one side of the bowl offers a distinctive contrast — all complemented by a warm cumberland stem.
