About This Pipe
Brazilian artisan Luiz Lavos traces his passion for craftsmanship back to childhood, spending countless hours in his grandfather's woodworking shop. Though he later pursued studies in graphic arts, the allure of shaping natural materials by hand never faded. Drawn to pipe making, Lavos refined his skills under the guidance of renowned artisans Sabina Santos, Premal Chheda, and Hans "Former" Nielsen, while also drawing inspiration from the elegant, understated work of Tom Eltang and Jess Chonowitsch.
This Acorn showcases Lavos' talent for balancing organic detailing and sinuous lines. Rising from a firm, gently tapered heel, the bowl expands gracefully into a broad, concave rim, creating a silhouette that faithfully evokes its namesake. The bowl's supple contours flow seamlessly into a trim shank, which is extended by a rugged section of bamboo that introduces both visual texture and natural rhythm to the composition. A gleaming accent of mammoth at the shank end lends a touch of luxury, its pale hues complementing the stummel's warm, honey-blonde finish. Beneath that vibrant stain, immaculate grain patterns unfold, with flame grain covering the bowl's flanks.
