About This Pipe
Sicilian brothers Elio and Guido Rinaldo moved to Pesaro and started working with Mastro de Paja in the mid-1970s, founding their own titular brand in 1987. They produce about 1,500 pipes a year using briar from Liguria in northwestern Italy, and grade them from one to four Y's, or the highest grade, Fiamatta, denoting excellent flame grain.
This Acorn is graded "YY" and stamped with the Italian word "Titania," denoting an especially large bowl. The stummel is finished with Rinaldo's fine Lithos rustication, which gives a granular but even touch to the hand and a warm brown hue. The rounded lines of the bowl give the heel and walls a pronounced muscularity, and a wide saddle stem with deep shoulders and a very flat bit finishes the piece. Though relatively conventional in its silhouette, this pipe is a great piece of craftsmanship from the Italian marque.
