About This Pipe
The Magritte "04", though distinctive in the sloping taper of its stem and slightly obtuse angle of transition, is perhaps one of the most classical shapes found in the Picta series. This may be because the painting it's drawn from, Magritte's "Freedom of the Spirit", presents a simple and decidedly less surreal (albeit still charmingly odd) image: A classically beautiful, and largely naked woman staring off into the distance while cradling a briar pipe. Clearly, we're dealing in relative terms.
