About This Pipe
Smokin' Barrel Briars is the work of American artisan Ryan McCawley, whose approach blends elements of Danish and English pipe making with his own evolving style. Largely self-taught, Ryan developed his craft through years of restoration, experimentation, and hands-on work, creating pipes that balance traditional influences with a distinctly personal character.
Among the first batch of pipes we've received from Smokin' Barrel Briars, this bent Apple is quite an impressive composition, featuring a compact profile that fits comfortably in hand. The bowl is tall and rounded, while the shank is fashioned in a teardrop profile, its crisp ridgeline offering a pleasing juxtaposition to the bowl's softer contours. The teardrop shank is distinctly Danish in its influence, while the compact proportions call to mind the tradition of American pipe making, making this a handsome showcase of the stylistic fusion that defines Ryan's work. The stummel is sandblasted, highlighting stacked growth rings along the bowl's flanks, while the rim is finished smooth for a touch of contrast.
