Given the low, low, LOW price of these cigars, I was ready to be underwhelmed. I was wrong to be so quick to judge based upon price alone. I've paid three times as much, for far inferior smokes than this.

The initial (pre-smoking) impression is one of a roughly made piece. And certainly, these cigars win no prizes in the beauty stakes. 'Rough and ready' is a phrase which springs easily to mind. A vieny wrapper, dark and slightly mottled. Slightly uneven at the least, and not at all waxy or oily. But firmly packed with what look to be quality leaves, rather than the floor-sweepings one might expect at this price point. But despite the tight construction, the draw, once cut, is surprisingly easy.

An easy light gives way to a slow and even burn. The initial 'barnyard' aroma and taste is gone within a minute or two, thankfully. Then comes a flavour of amazingly deep complexity. Earthy and savoury, like roasted flat mushrooms, yet at the same time sweet and chocolatey. The vaguest hint of vanilla, and spice. Rich, creamy and mouth filling. The smoke billows thick, white and curly as Moses' beard. The firm ash is surprisingly light in colour, almost white.

As the cigar burns slowly through, it remains cool and firm, never stodgy, soft or gooey.

The flavour and aroma just keep on getting better. Richer. Deeper. And not a hint of bitterness.

If it weren't for the fact that I want to sample so many others, I'd place these babies on standing order, and smoke nothing else. Read Less

Beautifully packed with nice Colorado maduro wrapper the Rocky Patel is very attractive. The band is also nice attached to the cigar, making it a very decent one. No soft or hard spot, the overall construction is very good. The smoke is plentiful and smells with hint of Chinese herbal - all excellent! The flavor is very smooth. The first 1/3 is with mocha notes and a little bit spicy. I can also note some dry cherry from now and then. Then the nutty and coffee flavor took over in the middle 1/3, which is a pleasant change. The last 1/3 is bit harsh and no really distinctive flavor that I can taste. Overall, it is a nice mild cigar. Read Less

Before I got into pipes I was a cigar guy. Now that I have a pipe as my main mode of enjoyment I still look for cigars to have on special occasions, camping or when I'm feeling a bit lazy about keeping my pipe lit. On a whim I picked up three of these sticks and I have to say I'm impressed. They are mild to medium in strength, have a great flavor with hints of oak, pepper, cedar and whiffs of sweetness now and again. The construction was great, burn was almost perfect and they won't break the bank. I've paid a lot more for worse cigars so don't let the price fool you. Read Less

I am mainly a pipe smoker. I decided to try a couple of these for a change of pace and was pleasantly surprised how smooth these were. I'm not switching over to cigars by any means but I will be ordering some of these and probably getting a small humidor in the near future. This one is an amazing cigar, a tasty cigar leaf with aromatic pipe tobacco producing very flavorful smoke. With no hint of harshness, this cigar tastes like smooth sweet chocolate. Everyone who likes to smoke a pipe with an occasional cigar should try this one. Read Less

These 5x40 bad boys just freaking kill it every time. I have smoked at least 50 of these and can't recall anything other than a perfect burn, a smooth, easy draw with tons of effortless smoke. The fact that they sell for under $3.50 is quite remarkable. I have smoked plenty of other Punch Clasico vitolas, with various results, but none of them hit so consistently and deliciously as the Punch London Club Maduro. I can't tell you how many times I've reached for one of these for a nightcap after a much larger and more expensive cigar and been just as satisfied, if not more. They work every time. Read Less
