About This Pipe Tobacco

A historic pipe manufacturer, Charatan was established in 1863 when Frederick Charatan began carving meerschaum pipes at his London shop. The brand eventually gained recognition as among the most prestigious pipe makers in England, with production supervised by the Charatan family until 1960, and even today, Charatan pipes are sought after on the estate market by collectors worldwide.

A very nice Virginia, well pressed and cut into flakes. Very easy to rub out and a delicate flavor. It is very traditional and not like today's Virginia flakes which often contain some other tobacco's. It is has good flavor and sublte grassy and citrus on the retrohale. This is a great Virginia quality tobacco but…nothing stand out this is a great mindless smoke and very slightly topped tobacco not always noticeable. Great but not a stand out when on sale put a few in the cellar no doubt they will age well.

The room note is pleasant

A mix of bright and darker Virginias, with a subtle tin aroma reminiscent of sweet hay and raisins with some light baking spice. Certainly not a blend to be rushed and it will give of its best if you save it for leisurely relaxed smoking. The citrus note is formidable.

I tried the Charatan rolls and love the Virginia perique rolls. I reordered, but got the Chatatan flake by mistake. I'm certainly glad I did! This is a very satisfying and tasty Virginia blake. Having smoked Capstan Blue for a couple decades, I am glad to find another tobacco that is equal and satisfaction and enjoyment to my old Captain Blue. I think this is a little milder than the blue Capstan, but this is definitely a satisfying all day smoke. Very clean burning and probably less flavoring than Capstan has. A happy mistake that I ordered the Charatan flake instead of the rolls. I will be reordering both! 5 stars!...Read More

Relaxing smoke

Getting warm now, so out come the Virginias. I tried to get this when it first came out, but it was sold out. Went with the Charatan Rolls, and love them. I figured this would be awesome, and it is. I smoke Royal Yacht, and this here is similar to me. I loaded a bowl of Charatan Flake in a Dunhill 137, and a bowl of Royal Yacht in a Dunhill 137. Smoked a couple minutes on each pipe. Rotated back and forth. I have tested 91 tobacco's. These two are very, very close. Glad I stacked five tins. Enjoy yourselves....Read More
