I cube cut the flake, gravity loaded into my brulor beater and really enjoyed this. This is just good burley without any noticable casings or toppings aside from maybe a slightly sweet casing that I get through the bowl. I like this as a change of pace from my normal routine of Carter Hall or PS41 or ready rubbed match. I get different flavors in every puff which is fun because they are all good. Sometimes a sweet molasses puff, then a nutty savory one, then a spicy earthy one. It's more complicated than my mainstays but not overly so. I worry that people will love this and I won't be able to get it again. I refuse to buy tobaccos for which I have to monitor my email alerts. So this will remain an occasional treat for me, but it is definitely a tobacco that could be an all day smoke....Read More

Despite the reviews, and of course this is subjective, Hiking is NOT similar to pre-2020 Solani Aged Burley Flake. Comparable yes, but not similar. The tin note is glorious; a wonderful air-cured burley scent (those that have walked through a burley barn during curing know that scent) with a horehound top note. The flakes are moist. Smoked in a Brebbia Fat Bob 2114; There's a horehound (root beer/licorice) tangy sweetness present with a cinnamon spice top note which nips slightly. The sweet horehound stays present in the middle notes which have notes of grass, wood and a touch of black pepper, which also makes me wonder if this is Malawi burley. I believe there's some Fire-Cured Burley present in this however, it's not American Dark Fired-Cured. I'm sensitive to Dark Burley and the nicotine content can overwhelm at times. The base notes are oatmeal and a bit of earthiness, along with the horehound. Its sweetness stays to the end. This is very smooth, creamy, and leaves a tangy sweet finish with the slightest dirtiness. Unlike American burley, this has no cocoa, molasses, or brown sugar notes. Also, unlike Solani, this has no coffee flavoring added. If you're a burley connoisseur, you'll enjoy this for the exotic burley profile of horehound, cinnamon, grass, oats, pepper and wood. It's a more complex and unorthodox flavor for burley, but very good. It reminds me of Rustica, but with some added horehound, cinnamon and invert sugar. Don't approach this with the thought of substituting this for HH Burley Flake or Solani... all three are different from the other. Solani, however, changed the ABF recipe after 2020; they removed the deep cocoa flavor and added more anise (licorice). So I can see where some may see similarities on a post 2020 production of ABF. But this blend is amazing. It’s a silver medal to Solani or Wessex. More nutty than chocolately. Flakes could be a little neater but that’s a moot complaint. If you want a great straight burley flake when the other two are no where to be found look no further. Praise the Lord!!!

This is an incredible burley flake.A bit moist but can be enjoyed straight out of the tin or 10-15 minutes of drying time depends to personal preference.The tin note was smoky,nutty,dark,caramel,hint of pop corn and chocolaty aroma. Easy to rub or cube cut the flakes for a denser taste and smokes,depends on personal preferences,packs well and taking the flame easily with minimal relights. Bold,smoky,nutty,creamy,slightly sweet, dark chocolate, molasses, brown sugar and very smooth cool smokes with medium nicotine boost. An all day fantastic smokes to me and definitely superb with age.
