About This Pipe Tobacco

Once an integral part of the North American mining industry, CNJ #113 was the last fully-operational steam engine for Pottsville, PA's Reading Anthracite Company. Commemorating its 30 years of service, the mixture of red and bright Virginias, cube cut Burley leaf, and dark fired Kentucky, imbued with notes of brandy and vanilla, is sure to help you let off steam.

A good aromatic

I'm not a huge fan of aromatics, but this one is very pleasant. I can taste the vanilla topping, but it's very much subdued and underneath the tobacco flavor.

I get a surprising amount of sour and hay flavor from the Virginias, and the Burley and DFK give it some body, as well as some
leather and smoky flavor.

Overall the flavor is quite nice, but I found myself having to relight often and it burnt on the hotter side. Takes a bit of effort to get this to smoke and taste fully

This aromatic ribbon is probably best noted for what’s not in the blend (Black Cavendish) than what is - a blend of Virginias, dark fired Kentucky and burley. Notes Include wine / booze , hay/grass , sugar cookies.r>
Sampled in a MM Missouri Pride.

So I had no idea this was an aromatic when I got it. But first light made me reach for the phone. I checked both the smoking pipes site and pipe tobacco review site and got some understanding. Apparently it is an aromatic , with topping flavors of black berry , brandy and vanilla.

It’s not overpowering. If anything this is my kind of aromatic - aromatic on the down low. The brandy / wine note is juuuuust enough present to be pleasant, and the sugar cookieness must be the vanilla playing off of the Virginias. Well done.

The burley here is present and up front, laying down a good smoke. If anything the nuttiness goes into the brandy and sweetness in a nice way, like almond in marzipan.

But - that’s about it. It’s not a life changer for me- though I do think it may be an aro that actually improves with age a bit. I’m willing to take that gamble withh an 8 oz order at some time down the road.

My rating : 4- this is good - I’m ordering some to have around when I am ordering something else.

This is the 41st of 101 C&D bulk blends I am reviewing for this project.

I had never heard of this blend I always watch YouTube reviews, but I couldn't find any. I have become a fan of Cornell and Diehl blends so I said "why not". This was a great surprise for me it's smooth and burns nice and slow. Best advice just try it and see. Awesome job Cornell and Diehl!

I don't know what to say about her. When I initially put my mouth to her I felt like I was kissing someone who had just smoked a cigarette. She was a little dry and burned out quickly. I expected more out of her. When I went back to try her a second time, I was again a little disappointed in how she tasted on my tongue. She was not unpleasant to be with but she lacked the passion I'd come to desire. I thought, “I'll spend some time with her, I won't put her on the shelf. But when our time together is complete, I likely won't be asking her to come around again.”
But she started to win me over. I started to miss her company from time to time. I may keep in touch with her after all.
